"SHUFFLE THE HOLODECK?"
As you say these words, the lights in the dimly-lit hallway suddenly light up, flash a couple of times, and then radiate in an array of neon colors. Through a speaker, you hear a familiar voice; it's the voice of your captain:
"Congratulations, officer! You've solved the last puzzle, and have completed this very special challenge. Go ahead and turn around, and we'll explain everything and celebrate."
After the captain finishes speaking, the lights fade out, but more strangely, the entire corridor around you also fades away, and you slowly realize that you have not been in the officer cabins; you've been in a holodeck program designed to look like a cabin corridor. You turn around as instructed, and the holodeck door slides open. You hurry across the room, and while your eyes take a second to adjust to the first properly-lit room you've seen since waking up, you see your fellow Starfleet engineers, as well as several other officers and the ship's captain standing there with smiles on their faces. One of the engineers is holding a platter with a cake.
"Surprise! Happy birthday!" Everything now makes sense: the unusual new security devices, the unnervingly long corridor of cabins, and, most of all, the sheer density of puzzles you've had to solve. These engineers know you for a fan of puzzles and games, and your birthday has been the perfect occassion to provide you with the puzzle experience of a lifetime. You thank all of the crew for this thoughtful celebration, and you carry on with the festivities, enjoying the company of your friends and colleagues on this starship you all call home.
Congratulations on completing Puzzle Trek! I hope you enjoyed the puzzles; look forward to more on this site in the future. Thanks for solving!
