ANSWER: FOLK SONG
Searching for some of the more specific phrases and names in this puzzle reveals that this is a puzzle about the game Stardew Valley. Through doing some research about Stardew Valley's mechanics and story, solvers find that each of the eight events is linked to a specific in-game date (clued by "dating" in the title). The "aha" of this puzzle, as hinted by the birthday cake icon, is that the eight dates each fall on the birthday of one of the characters. In the order given:
| Event | Date | Birthday |
| Mr. Qi drops Mystery Boxes after 50 in-game days | Summer 22 | Dwarf |
| Last day of blackberry season | Fall 11 | Jodi |
| Two weeks after the Egg Festival | Spring 27 | Emily |
| First day The Zuzu City Express can be seen at the Movie Theater | Winter 1 | Krobus |
| One day after the earthquake that unlocks access to the Railroad | Summer 4 | Jas |
| First airing of the Queen of Sauce episode featuring Plum Pudding | Winter 7 | Caroline |
| Abigail's appointment at the clinic | Spring 4 | Kent |
| Earliest day Fairy Seeds can be harvested, if planted once available at Pierre's on Fall 1 | Fall 13 | Abigail |
The amount of gold earned each day acts as an index into the birthday character's name (after being divided by 1,000); indexing these letters spells the answer to this puzzle, FOLK SONG.
Having played quite a bit of Stardew with my partner, I was spoiled for choice trying to find a game mechanic to base this puzzle around. After deciding on the character birthdays as the primary dataset, I challenged myself to avoid using the same game mechanic more than once as a method for pinning down dates. I think I did fairly well, with the only real overlap being the two random events (the Qi plane and the earthquake). I will admit that it probably boosted the difficulty of this puzzle; I don't think I saw feedback from any solver who worked out all eight of the dates (and I suspect that the Fairy Seed harvest date was probably left unsolved by many solvers). Regardless, I'm particularly happy with how well-rounded this puzzle is in terms of representing the depth of Stardew Valley as a game.
