In this metapuzzle, each of the puzzle answers from this round can uniquely be paired by length/enumeration to one of the five rows of boxes. The last few characters of each answer occupy boxes with the same color as the big red "NO" to the right of each line. By adding "NO" to the end of each of these strings, a group of five names is formed:

These names (Mizuno, Aino, Tsukino, Hino, and Kino) are the family names of the original five Sailor Scouts from the manga/anime series Sailor Moon. As additional confirmation that Sailor Moon is the franchise in question, the rows of boxes are given in the order of the scouts' corresponding celestial bodies, from closest to furthest from the sun (Sailor Mercury, Sailor Venus, etc.); additionally, the flavortext mentions "four planets and a moon", and the puzzle Moon of Stars has the answer corresponding to Sailor Moon, the one Sailor Scout whose name refers to a moon rather than a planet.

Each Sailor Scout has an associated color, matching one of the colors in the final row of boxes (Sailor Moon incorporates blue, pink, and yellow in her design; pink is used here as the other two colors more strongly represent other Sailor Scouts). This associates each puzzle answer with a color. Using each number in a colored box as an index into the corresponding answer extracts the metapuzzle answer, SCOUT THE AREA (a pun on the Sailor Scouts).

About This Puzzle

This was a very fun puzzle to set; I myself am not in the fandoms for most of the subjects of these puzzles, and part of the fun of constructing this hunt was looking for quirky aspects of my partner's special interests that would make for unique puzzles. In this case, noticing that the original Sailor Scouts' names all ended in "no" as a cute name convention felt like a really solid mechanism for a metapuzzle, and the planetary theming of the Scouts fit right in with the Star Trek hunt flavor. From feedback I've gotten from different teams, it looks like most solvers were able to identify the Sailor Moon theme, though I was amused by the false leads that some teams came across, such as Captain Planet and Naruto. Now I really want to see a puzzle about Captain Planet, because that would be more out of left field than most of this hunt's puzzles.
